stART: There Are Cats in This Book

(This post contains affiliate links)

I mentioned in this post that There Are Cats In This Book was one of C's favorite books that we had checked out the library. So I decided to make this book be part of her first stART.

We didn't have any orange paint, so we had to make some! I added too much red. So next time we have to mix orange, it needs more yellow, less red :) I drew an outline and C painted it. When it was dry she drew a face and then we hung it up. I said "look there is a cat on the refrigerator" and she thought was the funniest thing!

Alphabet Activities

Here is the picture of the letter activities I did not include in the most recent Tot School post.
Click on the letters to go to the original post. I still have letters A-J on my old blog.

A: Fingerprint apples
B: Colored using different shades of blue crayons
C: Caterpillar, patterning light and dark green
D: Painted dots using a small paint brush
E: Easter Egg stickers
F: Fork painting
G: Green Grass (green construction paper cut in small strips)
H: Holes (for this I used a hole punch, but C used a tooth pick to poke holes with a larger h on the carpet)
I: Ice Cream stickers
J: Jean material
K: Kisses - I put lipstick on C and had her kiss the paper
L: Leaves cut out with a punch
M: Marble painting
N: Newspaper
O: Orange Ovals (painted using C's finger print)
P: Pink Paint
Q: Q tip painting
R: Rainbows and Rabbit stickers
S: Star stickers
T: Triangles
U: Underwater (colored with a blue crayon and added some Finding Nemo and other ocean stickers that we had)
V: Vegetables
W: Water paint
X: Xylophone
Y: Yarn
Z: Marble Painted Zebra

I printed the letters using the font "Century Gothic" size 250, bold and outlined. Sometimes I had her do the project and then I cut the letter out. Other times I cut the letter out first and then she did the project.

So we are done with the ABC's! Here are all the art projects C has done since she was 18 months!
I have all the ABC's in our kitchen but don't have a picture.

Other activities

I have seen this idea on a few blogs and have been wanting to try it with C.

I made the cards and had her match objects found around the house to the silhouettes - she really enjoyed this. The hardest part for me was finding objects to fit on 4x6 index cards that would be easy enough to trace and find a match :)
She got this puzzle for her birthday and enjoyed putting it together
water tub outside! She ended up wanting to water flowers instead of playing in the tub.

And of course we read lots and lots of books (seriously, this girl wants to read more than anything else! I love that!) Click here to see just a few of the books we have read.

Now that we finished the alphabet we are going to take an ABC theme break. I am going to now try and do themes based on books and try to join in on StART!

Tot School

Tot School

~C is 24 Months~

This week we learned about the letter W!

Lots of Water play!
painting sidewalk with water

painting chalkboard with water
transferring water from bowl to bowl using a sponge
playing with water in the sink

A storm went through the night before and we had many water puddles in our driveway. C got rain boots for her birthday so I thought we would try them out. But she didn't want to jump, just look. We did see a bird taking a bath though :)

We found some worm tracks in our driveway

(ew!) And then we found a worm in the garden!

I painted the palm of her had to look like a watermelon. Then we dipped the end of the paint brush in black paint and C painted the seeds

She also used Water colors to paint a letter W

Other Activities

We made many Mother's Day cards (one for each Grandma and Great Grandma)
Found the idea here.
painting with some packing peanuts that came in one of her birthday gifts

Fun Stuff
Got to pet a baby calf at a local May Fest! Also saw baby goats and chicks.

We went to a different park than we usually go to. She is still too small for most of the equipment, but had fun on this slide!

What is 2?

One of C's favorite books we have checked out from the library is What is 2? by Molly Carroll.

After reading it a few times I thought that I could make my own version to give C for her birthday. I took pictures of things around our house and added some words using Picasa. I had them printed and put them in a photo album from the dollar store.

Here are a few pages from the book.

Other page ideas:
2 apples (like in the original book)
2 sisters (a picture of C&J)
2 Grandmas/Grandpas (we were lucky to get a picture of C with both Grandmas and both Grandpas)
2 crayons
2 puppets
2 red blocks

C really enjoys "reading" this book!
