Peg People Race Game

 

I am sure you have seen the peg color matching game around. If not, here is the set I made -

(idea from Chasing Cheerios, Gluesticks has a cute version too!)

Although they are fun for C, even J likes to play with them, I wanted the pegs to have more than one use. So I created this game for them (it is similar to one that my old preschool had called Snails Pace Race) 

 The game board is made from an old cereal box which I painted on the plain side. I also painted 2 cube blocks I found in the unfinished wood section (same area where I found the pegs and pots) at Hobby Lobby.

And because there are only 5 racers, I painted one side of the dice using all the colors.

Since I forgot to include the purple peg in the race, she is the cheerleader on the sideline :)

For this game you can have as many players as you wish and everyone plays with all the colors. There is no arguing over who gets to be a certain color and no one child is the winner.

The first player rolls both dice and moves the pegs according to what is rolled. If you roll a blue and red, you move the blue and red pegs one space each.

If you roll the rainbow, you get to move any color you wish 
 

If you roll 2 of the same color, move the pegs ahead 2 spaces

Each player continues until there is a winner -- Red wins the race!

C had to build flowers like the cards
I made these using construction paper. I wish I had a flower shape cartridge in my Cricut, that would have been so much quicker! :)

I printed a variety of flowers in different colors in rows and then cut them into strips. C had to cut them out and sort, then glue to make flower gardens. She only did about 3 of the strips.

Sticking flowers in play dough - first in a ball on the table, then we put the ball of play dough back in the container and she stuck the flowers in again.

Playing with pom poms and a muffin tin. She wasn't too into putting them in the tin, but she liked taking them out to put in that wooden tray.

Ten Dirty Pigs

This week at the library, the theme was "pigs". The librarian always sets out a variety of books relating to the theme for the children to check out. We picked out the book Ten Dirty Pigs by Carol Roth. It is really 2 books in 1. If you flip it around and turn it upside down, it is another story called Ten Clean Pigs.

After reading it,  I thought C would love to make her own muddy pig (she had lots of fun with all the pig activities they had at the library!)

All I did was print a pig on pink paper and let her sponge paint brown paint on it

The only brown paint we had was acrylic, I added dish soap hoping it would make it more washable. And wouldn't you know, the one time I do this, she hardly makes a mess.

 C had to dot over the letter A's along a path using our dot markers. I told her the lower case "a" (which was first) had to find the upper case "A" at the end. Idea similar to this idea at A Mommy's Adventure, which C also did.

 I also printed out the letters of her name multiple times, upper and lower case, randomly on a piece of paper. Then she had to follow my directions "Mark the letter "C's" green" and "Mark the letter "o's" yellow", etc.

 I made this fridge magnet chart, idea found at Chalk in my Pocket. After she completed it, I mixed up the letters for her to fix. She thought that was pretty silly and enjoyed fixing my mistakes :)

 I also made some word charts. This idea is from Camp Slop.

I also  made these block puzzles for C, idea from Activity Mom. I used 1 inch foam blocks I found at Goodwill. I found these on Amazon, but they are pretty pricey. You could make this activity to fit what you have on hand.

C thought the puzzle she is doing in the top picture looked like hopscotch, so I made her an indoor hopscotch using painter's tape (since it still looks & feels like winter here)

And that's about it, my mom visited us Wed-Fri, so we took a few days off.
