We inherited the Leap Frog Fridge ABCs this week. She pretty much only pushes the button that sings the ABC's. But I got her to push the letters a few times :)

We also made some crayons in a muffin tin - We made 1 pink and purple crayon :)

C's Grandma took her to story time at the library while I went to a Dr. apt. They had fun and came home with a few new books, including one about bringing home a new baby. C loves going to the library :)

Baby is due on Wednesday, so not sure how much we get done this week.
We may just take a few weeks off until things settle down a bit.

Little People Olympics

This morning Tip Junkie shared various Olympic Activities to do 

with your family. One in particular caught my eye, from Silly Eagle Books - how to make your own mini ice rink. C has enjoyed the little bit of the Olympics she has seen, especially the ice skating events. We made the rink this morning and I set it outside for the day to freeze. When it was ready, I brought it inside and grabbed some of her Little People dolls.

Little did I know how much she would enjoy this. She absolutely loved it! Eventually it started to melt and I had to tell her it was time to put it away (outside to re-freeze). We will definitely be getting this out again tomorrow!

C is 21.5 months

 

Ever since I saw this at Tired, Need Sleep I knew I would want to eventually make them. I didn't know it would be so soon :) C was playing with the (clean) inserts of her diapers (we use cloth) and making letters with them. So I thought I would cut up some foam pieces for her to play with. I have only made the lines, I will do curves later.

 

Before I cut out the letter O - I helped her make orange ovals on the letter O using her fingerprint

  

Here is the Orange Ovals and the Orange Octopus

 For the octopus I painted her palm and fingers and made 2 prints.

Then just painted 1 finger and made the legs longer.

 

I let her paint with leftover orange paint from the octopus

 Other O activities we did

We talked a lot about opposites - 

She played with these ribbons I made awhile back and practiced up/down, high/low, fast/slow, back/front.

 Also talked about loud/quiet, open/close, in/out and on/off.

Went outside a few times to enjoy the decent WI winter weather we have been having.

Watching the Olympics -- She likes to see the people on the Ice and Snow :)

This is C's favorite book. I printed a tree and taped it to a cookie sheet (Sorry, I do not remember where I found the printable!) Because we read the book more than once a day and watch this video on You Tube all the time, she is starting to recognize more letters.

Valentine Ideas

Acitivites I used in my preschool room a few years ago

Ideas were my own or based on the ideas of others. I did not write down where I found the ideas.

 I made most of these activities using paper and construction paper.
I had limited funds for laminating so I used sheet protectors.

 
These erasers were found at the Dollar Tree several years ago

  

Sort the erasers by shape

 

 

 

I do remember these erasers were purchased from Oriental Trading from this assortment pack

Trace the letter H using heart erasers

 
Here is my daughter (21 months) sorting foam sponges that have been cut in half by color in heart shape bins

The sponges can also be used as blocks :) Both the sponges and baskets were found at the Dollar Tree several years ago.

 

Sort hearts by size

 

Match the cookie cutter to the heart of the same size. When I taught preschool I had 2 sets of the mat and children were to cut the hearts out of play dough and match to the heart of the same size the mat.

Heart Puzzles

Homemade Memory Game made from heart stickers

This was a favorite. The children were given a few pom poms and then had to stand above the heart and drop them on the heart. They then had to count how many landed on the heart and how many landed off of the heart. It was a great math skill game!

 

We made posters, but this could be made into a greeting card as well. The card says "Hugs & Kisses for You" and children were given assortment of X's and O's in different fonts. They glued the X's and O's and some hearts on the paper. I believe this idea came from a Mailbox Magazine.

Children wrote their name before the word loves and depending on level wrote who or what they loved (or the teacher helped) Then they drew a picture of what they loved in the heart.

Tot School

C is 21 months old

This week we learned about the letter M!

I don't have many pictures from this week.

At the library the theme was "Yellow Moon" The project was to color and glue a moon on a piece of paper and put some star stickers in the sky. I never had an "M" activity planned, so this was it :)

We marble painted the letter M. C didn't like this at all. She wanted to pick up the marbles and paint with them like they were a brush.

She enjoyed putting popsicle sticks in the oatmeal container

Otherwise we just played with her toys, puzzles, tot tools, read lots of books. C loves the "That's Not My..." series by Fiona Watt. This week we checked out That's Not My Monkey from the library.

Hopefully this coming week will be a little more productive :)
